New Mini-Course Alert: Help Middle Graders Take Back Control of Their Attention

Three middle grade students using their mobile phones with their teacher pointing at the book cover of the edufiction novella, Brain Rot!

Today’s digital world is engineered to keep students scrolling. And it's working.

We’ve all seen it—kids zoning out on TikTok at midnight, endless YouTube loops, and “quick breaks” that stretch into hours. It’s not laziness or lack of discipline—it’s design.

Enter the the Brain Rot! Mini-Course – a 3-module, story-powered learning journey that helps middle grade students understand the forces behind their screen habits—and reclaim control. Based on the popular edufiction novella Brain Rot!, this interactive course uses fictional scenes, relatable characters, and classroom-ready reflection to teach:

The Hooks – Students learn how apps use persuasive design (infinite scroll, streaks, likes) to trigger dopamine and keep them coming back.

The Feed – They explore how algorithms shape what they see (and what they don’t), unpacking the role of echo chambers and engagement loops.

The Reset – They’ll build a personalized “Attention Reset Plan” to create balance, set boundaries, and take control of their digital environment.

Why This Matters - Parents and educators face the same story on repeat:

  • Homework interrupted by Snapchat.

  • Social drama escalating in group chats.

  • Dopamine-chasing behavior disguised as boredom.

  • Students comparing themselves to influencers’ curated highlight reels.

This course meets students where they are—through story—and empowers them to think critically, reflect deeply, and act intentionally.
