Bindi, Beam, Chi, Rob, and Mia—along with their virtual reality accomplice-slash-friend, Zeno—are five tech-savvy friends who are developing an Internet safety course using the nine principles of digital citizenship devised by the American academic Dr. Mike Ribble, including digital literacy, digital health and awareness, and digital etiquette, among others. Part of their project is to test the truth of the “universality power of the web,” as first relayed by Tim Berners-Lee, the computer scientist. They decide to partner with an off-the-grid school on Vunetai, a tiny island in Fiji, to prove their thesis. Little do they know that “Big-O,” an online superintelligence with nefarious intentions, is out to sabotage their plan.
